I originally planned to enter the counseling industry, but once I looked for a job, I found a screen full of emotional counseling, love lost recovery, get out of the single counseling, and even services such as dissuading a mistress.
Some institutions, although the name of recruiting counselors, the surface is quite professional, but after a deeper understanding, found that it is still the same set of emotional counseling.
For those who want to become a counselor, is this kind of job an option? Does it really enhance counseling skills? From an industry perspective, is emotional counseling considered counseling or not?
I've gained some experience in the job search process, so I'm here to talk about this topic and share my thoughts with you.
Through my job search, I realized that these are actually two very different careers.
1. Different work objectives
For example, if someone wants to get back after a breakup, the counselor will help the TA deal with the emotions, organize his thoughts, and let the TA figure out what he really wants. As for the last to salvage, how to salvage, are by the TA's own decision.
What about emotional counseling or recovery agencies, the goal is directly to help TA recovery, may teach TA some skills, such as sending some interaction with the opposite sex to the circle of friends, to provoke the other party's jealousy, so as to achieve the effect of recovery.2. Different entry requirementsGenerally speaking, counselors need to have a relevant professional background or hold a certificate, and the threshold is relatively high. But emotional counseling requires almost nothing and can be done by anyone.
I remember interviewing with an emotional counseling firm and asking if they needed certifications or training to get started.
The interviewer said yes, coworkers learn on their own.
I asked what classes they took and the interviewer downplayed it by saying, just read the book yourself.
3. There are good and bad in any industry
This is like buying something, there is no absolute good or bad. Some users feel that psychological counseling is too slow and hot, and they prefer that the recovery agency directly give the program, or even write the chatting words on behalf of them, and they feel that it is more practical.
However, there are good and bad in any profession. There are cases of violations in the counseling industry, such as counselors and visitors crossing the line; emotional counseling agencies may also be operating inappropriately. As for which path an individual chooses, it all depends on their own preferences and values, and there is no standard answer.
