Hey, I'm a 20 year old girl and often when I ask questions in private chats or groups on social media apps, I find that people always ignore me, which makes me especially anxious and irritated! What makes it even harder is that I see them chatting in other groups but they don't answer my questions. It's fine if they're just friends, but they're my roommates and we're pretty close offline, but they rarely respond online. I really want to ask them for help sometimes, but every time this happens, I can't control my emotions and I feel inferior, like I'm not good enough and that I'm annoying them. I even want to have a big fight and quit the group, it's killing me and I desperately need some advice, thanks!
Hello Owner ~ I'm Whale Social Worker Koboku and I'm happy to talk to you!
A warm hug to you first! I understand very well how you feel. From your description, I can see that you are often ignored during group chats, and that does make people uncomfortable. However, this actually happens to a lot of people, so don't worry too much.
In fact, the main reason is probably not that people hate you or don't want to respond, but that they don't know how to respond or feel like they can't type it out and then forget about it when they meet up.
So, I suggest that next time you are in a similar situation, you can just ask them for help in person instead of asking in a group. Because in a group, the responsibility is easily dispersed in a large number of people, and people may think that others will reply and they just don't care, which is a common herd mentality.
Good luck~ (whale social worker 🐳)
